DARRON JAMES FLAGG  (TENOR) enjoys an ever-growing reputation as an exciting international artist. The San Francisco Chronicle remarked that Mr. Flagg “heroically...sang the stratospheric (leading role)” of the Honorable Elijah Muhammed in Oakland Opera Theater’s 2006 production of Malcolm X. Building upon that success, this season marks Mr. Flagg’s official debut with Sacramento Opera in Aida. Known for his “splendid” ringing tenor voice, Darron is also recognized for his dramatic acting skills and complete artistry.

Born and trained in California, Mr. Flagg enjoys a wide-ranging international and regional career. He has performed in Southern California with Opera Pacific in their productions of Norma, with Dame Joan Sutherland, and in the musical Showboat. As soloist, Mr. Flagg has been heard in Russia, Sweden, and Germany. As a recitalist, Mr. Flagg has performed in New York City as a part of Lincoln Center’s Meet the Artist series. A past winner of the Southeast Symphony Young Artist competition, Mr. Flagg has performed in Northern California with the Valley Choral Society, the Folsom Lake Symphony, and in a production of Carl Otto Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor.

On the theatrical stage, Mr. Flagg has performed Shakespeare sonnets, and assumed roles in Johann Goethe’s Faust and Friedrich Dürrenmatt’s The Visit, both productions in the original German. His film career includes the role of Sal Jr. in Island Pictures’ Baghdad Café, co-starring Oscar-winning actor Jack Palance and CCH Pounder.

In the 2006-2007 season, Mr. Flagg will be heard as tenor soloist with the Tulare County Symphony in the Verdi Requiem and in Sacramento Opera’s production of Carmen. In addition to his artistic endeavors, Mr. Flagg holds a Jurist Doctorate from UCLA School of Law and an M.B.A., with specialization in global finance, from the Garvin School of International Management (Thunderbird).
